Breath Marks

Breath marks are marked with an apostrophe using the Technique Marking. In long passages, use these to denote phrasings.

In a french horn part, at half note=76. A breath mark here allows the players to hold the last whole notes for their full value.

Breath marks on rests are usually unnecessary, since players will usually breathe on rests regardless.

If you don't want players to breathe between phrases, mark "N.B." (short for "no breath") with a Technique Marking between notes. These markings are usually accompanied by breath marks elsewhere.
